It is common in this part of Africa that you start hearing phrases like “personal development” when you get to twenty-seven and above.
It’s sad, as this has affected the productivity of many young lads.
I had a gig for a real estate company to help grow their social media following with a low budget, and I agreed to a $100 per month service charge.
I got a graphic guy as the strategy requires us to post consistently for a month with good graphics.
We started on the right foot with the content; my guy was dropping good design in the first two weeks, and the copies were already created for the whole month. The content calendar is already rolling out. Everything was going smoothly.
I’m saying all this because we had everything handled from our end, but there was a problem after the first two weeks of posting the design, even if other parts of the strategy were doing well.
My designer ran out of motivation to create; his vibe just went down.
We started seeing flappy designs that communicated no emotions.
I knew the problem, but before we could handle it, it was already late. The client observed that the designs were no longer catchy.
Here lies the problem for that guy: it was personal development. They were areas of his personal growth he didn’t pay attention to. We had to stall that project until I could get a new designer.
Though he was skilled, he lacked knowledge of how to start and finish a thing. How to stay disciplined rather than motivated and how to remain principled and focused in his craft. How to handle creative blocks, which was a mental growth hurdle he needed to pass.
We, as humans, are programmed to learn.
It is human to learn.
Personal development is an inward or invisible growth that every other aspect of your life grows on. And it is learned.

Here are five areas of personal growth we should pay attention to:
5 Areas of Personal Growth
Pay attention to these five areas:
1. Mental growth: You must understand how the mental realm works. How the mind works. You must evolve into a better version of yourself. Mental exercise, like the ability to remember and stay focused, is important for our generation. The mind is a world on its own, and if not properly guided, it can go astray. We have a responsibility to stay mentally sharp by letting only what communicates value stay in our minds. We think about things that are good and pure.
Social growth: Humans are social creatures built to be interdependent with ourselves. You must learn to interact, build, and nurture relationships. Start up conversations, argue reasonably, and communicate effectively. All these are areas of social growth. You must learn to build interpersonal relationships with others.
Spiritual growth: This is an area of personal development that deals with the rebellious tendency society has built to perpetuate evil. Spiritual development brings a greater awareness of the origin of who you are, what you are meant to do, the standard you are to live by, and the after-death consciousness. This is at the core of every development phase and must be prioritized first.
Emotional intelligence: At its simplest, emotional intelligence is the ability to understand feelings. Beyond feelings, it’s understanding how those feelings shape our thoughts and actions. You should not always let your emotions rule your world. How you feel should be subject to what is at stake when you respond to that feeling.
Physical growth: A healthy body nourishes a healthy mind. There’s an intrinsic link between your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Bodily exercise is profitable. stay physically fit always.
This personal growth is achievable via experience and knowledge.
You need knowledge to grow and you must experience that knowledge to truly grow
You can read all about being physically fit, but until you experience what it’s like to jog, jump, or lift that weight, we can’t say you are developing.
Just as you need food to grow in stature, every aspect of this PDP area will require input to develop.
What area are you working on this year? We have forty-eight weeks left to be about what is important.
